• 1994–1997: Graduated Cum Laude from Seattle University School of Law. As a law student, Jay completed a judicial externship at the Washington State Supreme Court and was a Student Member of the Puget Sound Inns of Court. His classmates humorously voted him “Most Likely to Appear on the Cover of High Times Magazine,” reflecting his forward-thinking approach to cannabis law.

Before embarking on his legal career, Jay’s life was as colorful as it was daring:

• From 1975 to 1987, he worked as a professional skydiver, jump master, and instructor. His exhibition performances included high-profile events like the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Caesars Palace and concerts by ACDC, Stevie Nicks, and George Thorogood. He even once had the opportunity to impersonate D.B. Cooper in a performance.

Since 1997, Jay has operated his own legal practice. He is widely recognized for his skill in criminal defense, successfully representing clients in cases ranging from DUI to domestic violence. Jay’s advocacy extends to policy influence, particularly in cannabis law. He was instrumental in shaping Washington’s medical and adult-use cannabis policies and continues to advocate for sensible psilocybin legalization.
