What Happens If I Am Charged With A Felony In Everett? If the Snohomish Courts charge you with a felony in Everett, the legal process is complex. Here's an overview of what you can expect:
- Arrest And Initial Appearance: If arrested, law enforcement will take you into custody and schedule a bail hearing. At the initial appearance (or arraignment), the court will notify you of the felony charges against you.
- Pretrial Hearings: After the initial appearance, the courts schedule the pretrial hearings. These hearings allow your attorney to review evidence, challenge any aspects of the case, and file motions to suppress evidence or dismiss charges.
- Indictment and Arraignment: If the case moves forward, the courts will convene a grand jury to decide whether there is enough evidence to indict you formally. If indicted, you will go through another arraignment process, where you will enter your plea (guilty, not guilty, or no contest).
- Trial: If the attorneys cannot reach a plea deal, the case will proceed to trial. Felony charges are under the jurisdiction of the Everett Superior Court. In these trials, both the prosecution and the defense present their case, and a judge (or sometimes a jury) will determine your guilt or innocence.
- Sentencing: If you are found guilty of a felony, sentencing will take place at a later date. Sentences for felonies can range from probation and community service to long prison sentences, depending on the severity of the crime.
It's important to have a skilled criminal defense attorney by your side throughout this process to navigate the complexities of the legal system and ensure your rights are protected.
